The approach
The Up Group was engaged to appoint a Chief Commercial Officer capable of leading Unzer’s commercial strategy across Europe. The brief required a highly experienced operator with a deep understanding of payments, strong leadership credentials and a proven ability to scale high-growth fintech businesses.
We conducted an international search, targeting senior commercial leaders across payments, fintech and broader digital commerce ecosystems. The process was collaborative and insight-led, ensuring strong alignment with Unzer’s investors and executive team, and delivering a high-quality shortlist of candidates with the required strategic and operational expertise.
The impact
The search resulted in the appointment of Robert Bueninck as Chief Commercial Officer, bringing significant experience in scaling fintech and payments organisations.
Following his impact in the role—driving commercial performance and strengthening Unzer’s market position—Robert was subsequently and fairly quickly promoted to CEO, reflecting both his leadership capability and the success of the appointment.
